Welcome to the French Department at St. George's School. We are passionate about languages and offer a wide range of opportunities for students to experience languages both within and outside of timetabled lessons. French is taught across both Lower and Upper School and has been offered up to A Level.

Syllabus

French at St George's follows the AQA specification from Year 7 to Year 11. More detailed information about what will be taught can be found on the appropriate year page.

Key Stage 3 runs through Years 7 and 8.
Key Stage 4 runs through Years 9, 10 and 11.

At the end of Year 8, pupils choose if they want to carry on with French for their GCSE options.

Equipment

You are expected to bring the following equipment to all French lessons:

  • Black/Blue Pen for normal written work.
  • Green pen for self/peer assessment.
  • Pencil, sharpener and rubber.
  • A glue stick.
  • A highlighter.

Extra Curricular Activities:

Every Friday morning, a French Club is run where all year groups are invited.

Each week, we look at a different aspect of the Francophonie and the French influence across the world. This year, we looked at the French influence in New Orleans and Qu├ębec. We listened to songs by the French artist Stromae. We also tasted French produce from the North of France.
