Extra Curricular Activities
The staff at St George’s firmly believe that educating young people is not just about inspiring pupils academically, but also giving them a really broad range of opportunities.
We provide a rich and diverse diet of co-curricular activities, and students are encouraged to participate in order to discover new talents, improve existing skills and work as part of a team. We want them to find activities and hobbies that they enjoy, which will take them past school and often become lifelong interests. We actively seek to provide opportunities that will allow all students to be successful and shine. Our pupils decide which clubs they would like to have. These are changed each term after consultation via the School Council.
Music, Physical Education, Art, and Philosophy for Children all form part of the weekly diet of activities. Lessons are regularly enhanced with visitors to the school and trips to various places of interest in and around Birmingham or further afield.
In addition to curricular day trips and educational visits, older children have the opportunity to experience residential outdoor pursuits that engage them in activities requiring teamwork, cooperation and lateral thinking.
All pupils are given the opportunity to perform in assemblies and productions and qualified and talented tutors provide tuition in a range of musical instruments.
The school offers a range of team and individual sports to pupils during the school day as well as organising regular inter-school matches and fixtures in a range of sports. Pupils from the school also successfully compete at local and regional sporting events. As a result the school has been awarded the Gold Award for Participation and Competition for the last three years by Birmingham Local Authority.
The School Games Mark is a government led awards scheme launched in 2012 to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community. Participating in this process allows schools to evaluate their PE provision and assists them in developing an action plan for future progress.
In our most recent ISI Inspection, the St George’s extra-curricular programme was rated as “excellent”.
