Sporting Success

Students engage in a wide variety of sports at our school and as a result of our commitment to extra-curricular activities, we have recently been awarded the Pathway to Podium Gold Commitment badge as part of 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games. This recognises our engagement and excellent delivery of Physical Education and competitive school sport.

St George’s School have competed externally in 7 different sports during 2021/22 in Football, Basketball, Table Tennis, Cross Country, Indoor Athletics, Netball and Ultimate Frisbee involving both boys and girls. That equates to 98 fixtures and events organised and participated in!

We are extremely proud of this and it is our aim to give as many students the opportunity to play and improve with fixtures. Participation in school sport not only provides health and physical benefits but also develops personal and leadership skills which are essential for the well-rounded development of young people.

A few notable performances include:

Table Tennis

  • Central Birmingham U14 Boys Team School Games – Champions
  • English Schools Birmingham U13 Individual Champion – Brian W

  • North Birmingham Inclusive Primary School Games Finals – Runners Up
  • North Birmingham Inclusive Secondary School Games Finals – Champions
  • Central Birmingham Girls Indoor Athletics Champions

  • Birmingham Schools 3×3 Festival Champions
  • Birmingham Schools Girls Basketball League – 3rd place

A special mention must go to Brian W for becoming the Under 13 Birmingham Table Tennis Champion. Brian saw off competition from over 30 players winning his 7-player group to qualify for the semi-final. He then won his semi-final – 2 sets to 0 – and then in the final, went on to win 3 sets to 2 to be crowned Champion! Brian will now represent all Birmingham Schools & St George’s in the National Individual School Finals.

All of our students are developing vital skills and achieving success and we look forward to a busy Summer Term of fixtures and competitions!
