Walk, talk and support!

Over 150 St George’s Edgbaston students walked to school on Friday morning to raise awareness of the growing issues surrounding young people’s mental health, especially post lockdown. This was our second ‘Walk, Talk and Support’ event with students, staff and parents involved.

The event was also in support of Edward’s Trust – a local charity that supports children, young people and adults facing loss and dealing with bereavement. The values of this charity are strongly associated with the core aims of our school community.

Students, staff and parents made the mile-long journey from 3 different points around the city. It was fantastic to see so many students being active together and receiving support from commuters and the Edward’s Trust mascot ‘Teddy Edward’.

On arrival at school, students had a social breakfast – a further opportunity to talk and support each other as well as enjoying some well-deserved treats!

Our activities also mark Children’s Mental Health Week which runs from 07-13 February 2022. This year’s theme is Growing Together.

In May 2021, students did their first ‘Walk, Talk and Support’ event which raised £2175.69 for the charity. We are hoping that we will be able to make a similar donation from today’s activity.
