KS5 Curriculum

The Sixth Form at St George’s provides a warm and nurturing Post – 16 experience. Students benefit from smaller tutor groups and a dedicated Sixth Form and Pastoral support team who work with students to ensure growth and progress during this key final stage of their school education.

We provide a purposeful, friendly and supportive environment which enables students to reach their full potential by offering a variety of subjects and courses that meet individual needs and interests. We offer a wide range of A Level and Level 3 BTEC subjects to suit student’s academic abilities, alongside opportunities to improve upon core GSCE subjects, EPQ and other life skill qualifications.

BTEC qualifications are internally and externally assessed; they are equivalent to one A Level and are accepted as either standalone qualifications, or as part of an A level combination pathway to University, Apprenticeship or employment.

The options and combinations of A Levels and BTEC offered are wide; highly academic, traditional subjects such as English, Mathematics, the Sciences, French, History, Geography, Philosophy and Ethics, Psychology, Economics, Art, are offered alongside more practical, vocational, and technical options such as Business Studies, Photography, Hospitality, Performing Arts/Drama, Creative Media, Sport, Music Technology, Computing and Information Technology.

Timetabled weekly PE and PSHE sessions underpin a bespoke and varied enrichment programme that provides opportunities to better prepare our students as they move towards adulthood and their next steps beyond St George’s.

Sixth form students are offered additional classes during or at the end of the school day; these, combined with individual Academic Mentoring from the Head of Sixth Form, enable students to take ownership of their learning, to consolidate their understanding and effectively manage the increased academic expectations of Sixth Form study.

During their time in Year 12 and 13 the Sixth Form Team supports students to understand the post 18 options available to them. We provide support through the UCAS process whether it be Higher Education, an apprenticeship or employment.
