Shakespeare English Trip
On Friday 24th November Year 11 English Literature students visited Hall’s Croft and Harvard House in Stratford Upon Avon to attend a talk about their set text The Merchant of Venice. This enriched their study of Shakespeare which has been the topic for the Autumn term.
The day started with the talk where the students were encouraged to consider statues of Shakespeare’s play around Stratford Upon Avon and how this linked to Shakespeare’s use of imagery in his plays. They also reflected upon the context of the play and Shakespeare’s intentions. The talk continued by prompting discussion about the various debates inherent to studying the play and the methods that Shakespeare uses.
Following the talk, we took a short walk through Stratford Upon Avon to the Royal Shakespeare Theatre and to the river in glorious Autumn sunshine.
After a lunch break, we continued our walk through the town taking in various sights including Shakespeare’s Birthplace.
The students had a thoroughly enjoyable day and returned home brimming with new learning about Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice.
